Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are veins that have become dilated because of valve failure. The one-way valves inside veins normally keep blood flowing from the feet towards the heart. When the valves fail, blood can pool in your leg veins and cause increased pressure, dilation, and pain. Other complications, such as swelling, changes in the color and texture of the skin, and even open sores, can occur as well.

There are several procedures for treating varicose vein issues. Our medical specialists, among the most experienced vascular surgeons on the West Coast, will work with you to decide which treatment will work best for you.   Treatment recommendations may include compression stockings, sclerotherapy injections, endothermal ablation (using a laser or a radiofrequency wave) or minimally invasive surgery through very small incisions called microphlebectomy and/or perforating vein ligation.

Lake Washington Vascular is one of a select group of clinics in the Western United States that participates in national research trials for new vein treatments. Visit our research section to read more about our current research studies, as well as studies that we have participated in previously. We are proud that our clinic and our patients have contributed to the development of exciting new advances in the treatment of venous disease.
